I have a macbook running lion OX. The touch pad worked perfectly until a week ago. I downloaded its driver but it couldn't help. I also restarted it many times, again with no luck. Any advice?

Usually in laptop, when an operating system is installed the touchpad is already working using the operating system’s basic touchpad driver. That’s why in a newly installed operating system you don’t have to install its driver because it is already working in the first place.

But if you are not comfortable with it and you prefer using its original driver, you may install it and replace the current driver that comes with the operating system.

But in your case, I’m not sure if the touchpad is damaged or something. When you downloaded its latest driver, I think you did not uninstall first the touchpad and just proceeded on installing the latest driver to overwrite the existing driver. Maybe that procedure did not work.

This time try completely uninstalling the touchpad’s driver and then install it back using the latest driver that you downloaded. This will fix any corrupted files in the installation and will restore its settings back to default.

If that procedure still didn’t do any good, try formatting your hard drive and then install your operating system again. If your touchpad is not damaged and still works perfectly, it will work again after reinstalling the operating system.

But if it didn’t work after the installation, then it is possible that there is something wrong with it internally and needs to be replaced. Or, you may just use a USB type mouse as replacement for the touchpad.
