Are you using a Windows XP computer? If yes, I suggest that you upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 3 before installing Bing Bar. Bing Bar requires Windows XP SP3 and later Operating Systems in order for it to run smoothly. Try following these steps to help resolve the issue:

  1. Uninstall Bing Bar if installed using the Control Panel.
  2. Run a Disk CleanUp on your computer
  3. Update Windows XP to Service Pack 3
  4. Restart computer and then reinstall Bing Bar

I see. Can you try checking if you have registry files associated with an old version of Bing Bar on your computer? Old registry keys can cause installation issues when not properly removed. Launch the Registry Editor on your computer, expand the folders below on make sure that MSN Toolbar, MSN Apps and Bing bar are not present or deleted.

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoft folder

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SoftwareMicrosoft

Still no go. I did not find any MSN Toolbar, MSN Apps or Bing bar folder on both registry keys. I am getting frustrated on this, but I really want toolbar installed on my PC. As additional info, I have other toolbars and add-on programs installed on my computer, can that also cause a problem with Bing Bar installation?

Since you mentioned that you have other add-on programs installed on your computer, try performing a clean boot installation of Bing Bar to help resolve the issue. This will temporarily disable all unnecessary startup items on your computer before installing Bing Bar. Here’s how:

1. Click Start, select Run, and then type in MSCONFIG.exe on the Run box and hit Enter
2. Select the Selective Startup option and then make sure that the Load Startup Items checkbox is not selected
3. Go to the Services tab and put a check on Hide all Microsoft services
4. Uncheck all remaining items and then click OK. Restart computer.
5. Now try to reinstall Bing Bar

Lets hope that this will do the trick. Good luck!

You did it Ron! The clean boot resolved the issue. I guess the add-ons are really the one causing the issue. Thank you so much, you’ve been a great help.
