Having trouble importing mail from WLM to MS outlook

I am having trouble importing mail from WLM. I tried starting my Microsoft Outlook 2010 to check my .dbx folders from the Outlook Express but it wouldn’t start. I then decided to transfer my Outlook Express to WLM. I tried both importing and exporting my mail to and from Outlook 2010 but the only thing I saw was the welcome message.

I also copied my old Outlook .pst files from my previous system which was a 2007 version, to the Outlook 2010’s store directory. I was thinking that this may have caused why I am now unable to import m mail. Do you guys know what could be going on? I would appreciate any of your insights.

Thank you.

Hello Alan,

In order to export messages from Windows Live Mail in Win7 into Win Vista or Win XP, you need to perform the following:

  • First of ALL Start Outlook, this is the basic requirement, if the outlook is NOT running you may face different issues.
  • Now login and Start Windows Live Mail.
  • From the Windows Live Mail menu, press ALT+M to show the File menu bar.
  • Now point to Export, and then click Messages.
  • The WLM export Wizard will open.
  • On this Wizard, click on Microsoft Exchange, and then Next.
  • Now Click OK.
  • This will export messages from Windows Live Mail to Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Exchange.
  • If you want to specify selected files or folders, simply select the same and then OK.
  • When the Export Complete dialog box popup, click Finish.

Hi,

Actually you are mixing up all things. You have tried Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Ms Outlook 2007 and Ms Outlook 2010.

From your query it is very easy to understand that how you are messing up things.

  1. First of all dbx is format of Outlook Express.
  2. Windows Live Mail format is eml.
  3. You want to convert your email from this software to Ms Outlook.
  4. First of all from Windows live Mail import your outlook Express data file.
  5. Now the data is shifted in windows Live Mail.
  6. You can set all incoming and Outgoing Email settings easily and use it as your Email client.
  7. Now if you want to use Ms Outlook 2010, close Windows Live Mail and open Ms Outlook 2010.
  8. When you will open it first time it will ask you that there is already a profile present on your computer, do you want to use this profile. By clicking yes it will import all your settings and data in MS Outlook 2010.
  9. If you do not want to Use this method then you can use MS Outlook 2010 import tool.
  10. I think now you will be more comfortable with the email formats.
