Hello Jeo Tolbert,

I think your software which unzips your zip file is corrupted. You should download a new unzip software and unzip the zip file.

To download a fresh unzip software go to the following link.

Link: http://www.winzip.com/downwz.htm.

There are some steps you should take.

  • Download the software.
  • Uninstall the previous software.
  • Install the downloaded software.
  • Unzip your zip file.

Thanks.

Hi Jeo,

The information you gave somehow lacks further details.

So I can only think of this reason, I believe the file you are trying to unzip is corrupted or damage that’s why it cannot be extracted.

You can check the file size of the zip file and see if it is not 0KB or you can compare the size of your backup file if it matches or not.

If there’s a difference then the only cause of it was during the time you were retrieving the file.

If you can be able to get another copy of the zip file, that would be great.

If the problem still occurs, you need to use another zip program. I recommend 7-Zip

This is a free application.

I hope this helps.

That’s the last thing you don’t want to see when unpacking a compressed file like ZIP file. If the ZIP file you want to open was downloaded from a website or sent by a friend, make sure the file was downloaded completely. If the ZIP file can’t be opened by WinZip, try downloading the file again and unpack it. See if this works.

Aside from using WinZip, try also using 7-Zip File Archiver. Their difference, WinZip is a commercial software that needs to be purchased to unlock the full features while 7-Zip is completely freeware and offers better compression ratio than WinZip. If the ZIP file still can’t be unpacked, try viewing its contents. Using 7-Zip, right-click on the ZIP file, point to 7-Zip, and select “Open archive”.

See if the file is viewable. Try downloading DiskInternals ZIP Repair. It is a freeware tool that can be used to repair damaged ZIP files. See if the file still can be fixed.
