I need help. I have an 8 GB USB Flash disk and I am unable to format it. I have tried using several computers but keep on getting the same result. What happened is, when I tried to format the disk, it keeps on prompting an error before it reaches 100%.

Have any of you experienced the same issue? How did you resolve it?

Hi there! Here are some recommendations that you can try to format your flash disk. Check if your flash drive has an available partition. If yes, follow these steps:

  1. Go to "Control Panel", select "System and Security".
  2. Select "Administrative Tools" and then go to "Computer Management".
  3. Once you’re on Computer Management, highlight the "Disk Management" and then, delete partition.
  4. After deleting the partition, try formatting your flash drive.

If this doesn’t resolve the issue, try these alternative steps:

  1. Format your flash drive using the FAT format.
  2. After using FAT, format again using the FAT32.
  3. Do the format once again using NTFS.

Hope one of these procedures resolve your issue. Good luck!

Thank you Inday! Unfortunately, none of it resolved the issue. I’m still unable to format my flash disk. The brand of my flash disk is PQI. As an additional information, I can still save files on my flash disk but cannot format it. Every time I plug it into my computer, my Kaspersky Antivirus detects a worm.

Any other advice?

Jian,

Have you tried using the format tool from HP?

Try searching for HP USB format tool, download it in your PC and see if it will work on your USB device. Based on feedback from other users, it works on all brands of USB Flash disks.

Let’s just hope that this did not create a physical damage to your disk, because physical damage is almost impossible to repair.

This is where I downloaded HP USB Format Tool:

Again, the HP USB format tool did not work. I downloaded the HP USB Format tool and then run the .exe file but it gave me an error saying that it cannot fix the device. I guess it’s about time to let go of it and buy a new one.

Thank you for your time.

Don’t lost hope. I have a few more tricks up my sleeve. I'd tried looking for a format tool for PQI devices and found Dr. UFD tool. According to their website, it is specifically designed for PQI flash disks and can restore your USB device to its original condition. I have tried it on my own USB device (which is a transcend brand) and it appears to be working.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to DrUFD.exe – Information
  2. Click the download link for Dr. UFD tool found at the bottom of the page.
  3. Once downloaded, plug in your USB Flash disk device on your computer.
  4. Double click the DRUFD.exe file and it will automatically detect your USB device. You can then, repair it.

I don't believe it ! It worked ! Thanks Inday, you just saved me from spending money for a new flash disk. I was now able to format my device and no more virus/worm is detected on my PC.

Thank you very much. You’re an angel!
