I recently purchased a new P5Q motherboard few days ago. But when I opened it, it will not start.

I tried to with it off and on again but to no avail. And then it showed, my motherboard was unable to detect my WD5000AAKDS WD 500 GB SATA II 7200 RPM 16MB HDD.

I tried to detect through system setup but nothing could help me.

I want to repair it myself. Can anyone help me?

  • If you are familiar with your hardware inside the CPU casing, you may try these options.
  • First is un-plugged your computer from the power outlet, open the casing. You will see a red narrow wide flat cable connected from your Motherboard and to your hard disk drive. That is the SATA HDD connector cable. Disconnect the cable from the Motherboard as well as in the hard disk drive. Now, connect it again with the same location and orientation where you disconnected the cable. Don’t worry about reverse connection; you can’t connect the cable in reversed. Now turn-on your computer to find out if it is already detected. If still not working, disconnect the SATA cable in your Motherboard and move it into other SATA slot. Then turn on again your computer.
  • Beyond this basic troubleshoot requires the aid of experts, call a computer technician to fix the problem to avoid complexity of problem.

  • If you are having trouble in detection of your harddrive then it is most probably a hardware problem.
  • I would suggest that you look at all the cables of the hard drive and make sure that they are nice and tight, loose connections are a very big factor which cause this problem.
  • If this doesn't work then try running the hard drive on some other computer to check its functionality that whether the harddrive is working properly or not.
  • Also switch the cables of cd rom with hard disk they are same and might help
