Hi Stella,

The error message occur when the system is not detected a hard disk on your computer. To make it sure try to remove your hard disk and this is what you can see on the command prompt. All you have to do first is to restart your system repeatedly until the windows appeared on the screen, or until the windows booth on your screen. If this procedure didn't work then you should proceed to the next step but to  unplug/plug your hard disk and observe if the hard disk is detected on the system. Lastly if there is still an error then the problem is really the hard disk so replace it and i'm sure it will work. You should follow this following steps to troubleshot your hard disk, this is commonly happens in an old PC, this is rarely seen if you have a new PC.

Thanks,

Tony Stevenson

Here is how to fix the disk boot failure problem:

  1. First, you need to make sure that there is no CD/DVD or floppy disks are inserted when you are trying to boot the computer.
  2. You also need to disconnect any connected USB storage devices, for instance Cameras, Phones and iPods for they have been known to cause this boot problem as well.
  3. You will also need to make sure that your system BIOS lists the hard drive as one of the boot devices. And to add on that, you also need to set the boot order in BIOS to allow the hard drive to become the first boot device.
  4. Last but not least, you must make sure that the hard drive is recognized during system power on self test. In case it is not, then you will have to check the cables and other connections.
