Hello!

Could you suggest a good software that I could use to host a File Server in my place? I would like to do file sharing between the two laptops and one desktop PC here.

Thanks.

There are many file hosting softwares that are good to use, but one that I will recommend is DriveHQ FTP. It provides you with complete FTP solution that includes the FTP Server, the FTP Client and the FTP hosting service.

Some of its best high-end features include the following:

  • The application allows you to create and manage FTP the sub-accounts from a web browser;
  • It also allows you to access the files using the FTP, HTTP, SSL service or web browser;
  • When using the application, you can be able to share files and folders and set different access permissions as you want;
  • You will be able to synchronize folders automatically among local and remote folders; among multiple Users and PCs.

If you’re looking for a good file server that you can use in your own place for three computers, FileZilla Server is a good one to try. FileZilla Server is a server that supports FTP over SSL/TLS and FTP which offers secure encrypted connection to the server. It supports SSL which is the same encryption level supported by web browsers in protecting data.

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer. It is the standard security technology for creating encrypted link between a web browser and a web server. With SSL, data is encrypted to make sure any meddling eyes will not be able to see it and confidential information is protected. FileZilla Server supports on-the-fly data compression which can improve transfer rates.

Sadly, the compression setting can have varying results so it is recommended to use it with care. FileZilla Server doesn’t support SSH File Transfer Protocol or SFTP. You can download the latest version from FileZilla Server for Windows. It supports Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 both 32-bit and 64-bit.

Unfortunately, unlike FileZilla Client that supports other operating systems like OS X and Linux, FileZilla Server is designed for Microsoft Windows only.
