I am looking to surprise my son for his birthday with a new gaming box. He likes to play games on Steam. Would these specs make a fast gaming machine? Would anyone recommend this brand?

Your thinking is quiet good. But if you actually want to build-up a gaming pc, I'll suggest you to make your ram 16 GB which you can make by including two 8 GB DDR3 inside your pc. It will make pc more faster. And buy gears (gaming mouse, keyboard and headphone) also. In this case you I recommend you to buy Razor's death adder.
Hi, Joseph K Carpenter yes it good for gaming your running on 64 bit, even better so you can upgrade your RAM on 16 GB later on. I advise that you upgrade the Video card to 2 GB trust me in high graphic gaming 2 GB is way better in performance. Your boy will love it especially if he is playing Dota 2
