I have my website hosted with Godaddy Cpanel using a Windows server.  My website keep going down a lot and when I pressured the Godaddy tech. He said I need to transfer to a Linux server instead of Windows.  I do not know anything about Linux so how hard will it be to work on my website?  Is the Cpanel a lot different?

I don’t see the reason why you need to transfer from Microsoft Windows server to Linux server just because your website often goes down. Before transferring, I guess it is better to check the website for other problems that causes the site to go down. One of the possible causes why a website goes down is coding errors.

If you hired a couple of people to design your website, they probably wrote a bad code on the site. The faulty code can take down a single page or probably several other pages depending on the code that has errors. Also, the variations in the web browsers used are a big headache for web developers.

Sometimes a website displays properly on Mozilla Firefox and then displays incorrectly when Microsoft Windows Internet Explorer or Opera is used. Another cause why a website goes down is server overload. Because of the volume of users visiting the site, a web server can become overloaded and slow down or shut down.

This is because the resources available to the website are not enough and cannot keep up with the demand from people visiting the site. Usually, it is the memory, CPU, and database queries that get easily over utilized if the website is not optimized for high traffic.
