GNOME is not intended as a Linux Distributions replacement but as a platform for testing and development according to the Red Hat designer Allan Day.

It just means that improvements from GNOME OS should improve what the GNOME should offer to distributions. It stabilizes APIs, an improve deployment of applications, automatic testing, and the most controversial mobile and touch devices.

Hi,

A new Gnome OS will be launched 2 years from now and it will serve as an open source OS. Developers can use this OS to test applications and also check hardware compatibility.

New devices will also be supported once it’s out. Future users who are already impatiently waiting for it should already expect a much better user experience. It must be expected to be launched by March 14, which is touted as the Touch-compatible Gnome 3.
