I am using one tape drive in one UNIX server. Daily  i used to take backup and weekly also i used to take backup.

When I try to restore one of the UNIX file system from one of the media i am getting error as below

Cannot create file: Not a directory write error extracting inode 14765, name ./sfw/sbin/smbd”.

Can it may be error in server or it may be in the disk.

Getting error while extracting linux filesystem

Above error which you show is due to the tape drive or the media is lost. Eject the media once and put the cleaning media and clean the tape drive. Once you clean the media before putting the media check properly whether you are putting the media in write protected mode. If you are putting in write protected mode then you won’t be able to extract the data.

So check that insert the media again.give the

Command again and check whether you are getting the error again if the error arrive again then remove the present media and insert some other media. If you are able to extract some files from any other media then the previous media data is in bad media that means it is gone or lost.
