When i try to play Call of duty:World at war and some other games they gave me slow performance during the play, frame rates are too slow. Even with minimum settings frame rates r too slow. Even need for speed and some other games r giving me slow performance at 1024×768 resolution. Some other games like dead space gives me good frame rate but there are some audio problem too. Then only game which i could play properly is Fear. I play games only in XP. In vista these games are not playable.

I tried re-installing drivers for my graphics card, sound and i even installed the sp3 updates for windows

What could b the problem ?

Also my processor is making a lot of noise and the temperature of CPU is also very high. Should i buy a new heat sink and fan?

To upgrade my Graphic card to get better performance?

Hello,

COD game series really requires a lot of your computer specs, or mostly all the new games. Since you are in to gaming video card and RAM really matters, here are the things you need to check on your computer. Once you have checked these steps, you should have no problems with gaming.

For the lag and framerate issues you are having, try these things:

1. Check if the game video memory requirement is met by your video card

2. RAM and processor should be capable too.

3. Make sure driver is up to date

4. Install the latest Direct X (this is for the sound as well)

5. Disable or turn off the video card controlled Anti-Aliasing Mode

6. Disable in-game anti-aliasing setting.

Now for the noise and heat issue you are having, here comes the style versus functionality part. Gaming will definitely heat up your rig. Processor would most likely make noise if its trying to maximize its capacity. And while gaming, your hardware is always put to the test, so there comes in the heat.

Here are the things you can try to avoid or at-least minimize the heat and noise your rig is making:

  • Make sure your rig meets the minimum requirements of the game. Remember that minimum requirement means – low resolution and low image graphics settings. So don't expect you can set graphics to full if your rig is on the boundary.
  • Is your CPU on a location in which there is a good amount of air flow present? Make sure both sides of your CPU is not blocked by anything. This would blocked the fan's exhaust.
  • Make sure your CPU is free from dust.
  • It would be more advisable to change your CPU casing to a bigger one rather than upgrading fans. the fans would be costly, upgrading fans would mean upgrading power supply.

Hi clayton

I am a gamer too and i know fps problems are very hassle. The solution i can suggest is clean your computer remove dust inside and apply thermal grease on CPU heat sink.

Thermal grease helps heat sinks dissipate the high temperatures produced by CPU.

And defragment you hard drive for faster file access.

Also use game booster to free up some unnecessary programs.

It's a free program or you can buy it. You can check it out here.

Hi Clayton.

Check for software and driver issues

The first place to start when diagnosing software problems is to make sure that all of your software including drivers is up to date and properly adjusted.

Check for known issues and updates for the game. Most software problems are not unique, and when you encounter one, it's likely that other people are having the same problem. Frequently, game publishers will issue updates that contain fixes to known problems. To learn more about known issues and get updates for games and devices, visit the game publisher's or device manufacturer's website.

Update Microsoft DirectX. DirectX is a suite of multimedia technologies that helps create the special visual and audio effects that come with games. Many games rely on DirectX to help get more performance from your computer. Make sure that you have the latest version of DirectX so that you can take advantage of all of the latest features. For information about making sure that you have the latest version of DirectX, see Which version of DirectX is on your computer?

Get the newest device drivers. Because game performance can be affected by device drivers, it's a good idea to make sure that you have the latest drivers for all of your hardware. For more information about keeping your drivers up to date, see Update drivers: recommended links.

Adjust your game's settings. Most games have settings that allow you to control the resolution and level of detail that's displayed, as well as the quality of the audio. Check the information that came with the game to find out how to use those settings to optimize the game for your computer's hardware.

I hope these will help. 🙂
