I just to make sure before I develop applications. I am just scared that the freeware Windows Azure will suddenly lock after a certain trial period. What was your experience?

If the software expired after the trial period, you can always purchase it. Windows Azure offers monthly payment or the Pay as You Go plan that offers no long term commitment and there is no upfront costs.
