I want to install Exchange Server, but prior to this I need to know when do I use the Setup.exe /forestprep command and the Setup.exe /domainprep command?

Do I need any permission to run the two? Thanks.

You need to ForestPrei in forest before you run the Exchange 2003 DomainPrep as follows:

  1. First, you will need to insert the Exchange CD into your CD-ROM drive, and you can also run DomainPrep on any computer in the domain.

  2. And then from a command prompt, you will  need to type E:setupi386setup /DomainPrep, where E is your CD-ROM drive.

  3. After that you will need to go to  Welcome to the Microsoft Exchange Installation Wizard page, and then you will click Next.

  4. And then on the License Agreement page, you will need to read the agreement, agree to the terms, and then click I agree, and then click Next.

  5. In case the Product Identification page appears, you will need to type your 25-digit product key, and then click Next.

  6. And then you will go to the Component Selection page, and there you will need to make sure that Action has been set to DomainPrep. Otherwise you will need to click the drop-down arrow, and then click DomainPrep, and then click Next, and then Finish.
