AutoCad supports two types of fonts,

AutoCad native SHX fonts: These are installed by copying .SHX file into AutoCad fonts folder.

Windows System True type fonts (TTF): These fonts cannot be installed by copying in AutoCad but have to be installed in Windows.

For Windows 7/8/Vista:

Select the font files > Right-click > Install

For other Windows versions

The font files are placed in fonts folder usually C:WindowsFonts

If you cannot see your fonts in both of these locations, then your file extension is changed anyway from true type font (TTF) to PFB or AFM version making it a corrupted font.
