FIREWALL WORKING , DO I NEED AN ANTIVIRUS?

I have turned on my firewall. The antivirus that I was using has expired. The system keeps telling me that my computer is at risk and to update it. I think that firewall is capable of detecting and blocking virus attacks.

Can somebody tell me why I should purchase an antivirus considering that my firewall is turned on?

Thank you in advance.

Good day Wesley. First of all, I would like to refresh your idea about a firewall and an antivirus and how important they are in a computer system. A firewall is designed to prevent unwanted access by granting or denying permissions to your computer ports while an antivirus protects your system simply by identifying a possible threat and then eliminating or putting an infected file in quarantine so that it cannot do more harm to your system.

Running a firewall alone is not advisable since it’s not capable of protecting you from threats like malware and in worst case, a virus. If your antivirus has expired, it can protect you from viruses that it can identify if it’s still running in your system but it will not be able to detect newer threats since it’s no longer getting updates from its server. So, you’re still vulnerable. I suggest you to get a new antivirus and make sure that it’s always updated. I hope I was able to help.

Thanks and good day again.

A Firewall is only used to notify you about the condition of your system security but it is not enough to secure your system from viruses and other threats. Antivirus not only informs you about viruses but also performs actions to secure your system and clean those viruses; however, it needs daily updates from the internet. Because new viruses are created daily, your antivirus also needs to be updated daily. Your expired antivirus will continue to protect your system but not from the newer viruses.

I also suggest you to install a light and good antivirus and turn on its auto update feature.

Hi,

That's a good question. You need both firewall and antivirus on your computer. The firewall is used to prevent unauthorized Internet users from accessing private networks connected to the internet. Firewalls can be implemented in both hardware and software. Antivirus filter malware, spyware, malicious software even viruses that can caused destruction to your computer; they also prevent infiltration into your system.

Example: Imagine such a house that has the door locked is like a firewall to protect it from thieves. But the window has no protection like a door, so the bad guys can easily pass through the window to enter inside the house. But if you place a lock there too, the bad guys can't enter into the house. The windows is like a antivirus.
