How do I transfer all my applications and files from my old Mac mini to my new Mac mini? I tried using the Migration Assistant but can't seem to find the files anywhere? Where do you think they must be stored? Is there any other way for migrating files?

Hello,

If you have successfully used the Migration Assistant, then the transferred files must be there in your new Mac.

  1. Search for the System Preferences in your new Mac mini
  2. The account that you have transferred from your old Mac mini should be set up as an account here
  3. Use the username and password you were using for the old Mac mini to access the account
  4. All your files and settings will be saved as an iLife account which you can access from your new Mac mini

If you have a new Mac and you wish to transfer or copy your files from the old computer to the new one, you need to use the Migration Assistant. This will help you copy all of your documents, apps, user accounts, and settings from another computer to a new Mac. Before you begin, make sure both Macs are installed with the latest updates.

Your old Macintosh should also be using OS X Lion or higher and also check that it has a name or a computer name. To check, go to the Apple menu then select “System Preferences,” “Sharing” then check the “Computer Name” field. Next, connect both computers to your network or Wi-Fi network. After this, on the new Mac, go to “Applications,” “Utilities” then select “Migration Assistant.”

Click “Continue” on the next screen. When you are prompted with “How do you want to transfer your information,” select “From a Mac, Time Machine backup, or startup disk” then click “Continue.” On the old Mac, open the Migration Assistant then click “Continue.” When you are prompted with “How do you want to transfer your information,” select “To another Mac” then click “Continue.”

Next, on the new Mac, when you are prompted with “Select a Mac, Time Machine backup, or other startup disk to transfer its information to this Mac,” select the appropriate icon then click “Continue.” After this, you might see a security code. Next, on the old Mac, if you see a security code, verify that it is the same code as in your new Mac then click “Continue.”

On the new Mac, select the backup to transfer the information from then click “Continue.” Select the information you wish to transfer from the backup then click “Continue” to begin the transfer. If you have lots of contents, the transfer might take several hours to complete.
