File format lost while transferring a document from MSWORD 2007 to 2010?

I made a document in Microsoft Word 2007 version, and transferred it to any other computer having Microsoft Office 2010, but surprisingly the original form of file was lost in MS Word 2010, what is the reason behind it, and what precautions can i take to avoid it in near future?

To answer your question, I have following instructions detailed below.

You have to go to the icon as shown in the image select save as button and choose to save in 2007 version, then open your document on another computer that having an MS Word 2010 version it will save and open your document as it is.
