Fatal Error Video Codec Needed

I need help on this error:

ERROR

Fatal Error! The media system on your computer is corrupt. Update your video codec immediately to resolve this issue.

It keeps popping up on my computer screen. When I click on OK or hit the exit button, it will re-appear again simultaneously.

I don’t know which media system is corrupted and which video codec is needed to update. I am running Windows XP Home Edition. My entire media players and media files are working correctly.

Is this some sort of a rogue virus?

How would I know if I am having one?

Please help.

You can use Trend Micro's program "HIJACKTHIS". It will help out fix this issue. Run the software through the link:

Click Fix to delete the ff:
O4 – HKCU..Run: [mediacodec.exe]
C:UsersDESKTO~1AppDataLocalTempmediacodec.ex e

O23 – Service: XAudioService – Unknown owner –
C:Windowssystem32DRIVERSxaudio64.exe (file missing)

Reboot your computer. Then go to Start>All Programs>Accessories.
Select System Tools, the click Disk Cleanup. In the Select Drive box, select drive C:
and click OK. This process might take a while. On the Files to Delete tab, check all boxes. Click on Yes when asked if you want to perform all these actions. It will now delete all unnecessary files from your computer and compress all your files and folders.
