Hi All,

I got the Photoshop CS3 downloaded on my laptop and am having a hard time installing it. The setup simply halts with a message that says an error has occurred and it offers no helpful hint as to what might be the problem. It simply says encountered an error and that is all it has to say. I have been trying to install several times now and unfailingly coming across this cryptic error message every time. I tried running a complete scan of my system using AVG and it did not report any issues. I am using windows XP on my laptop. As far as I know I have installed all the updates and all the software available are up to date. And I ensured that my system meets all the recommended system requirements for installation. What could be the error that is encountered? Please can someone help me? Thank you for your immense help.

Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance. The requested operation is successful. Changes will not be effective unit the system is rebooted.

Failure to install Adobe Photoshop CS3

Since you are installing Adobe Photoshop CS3 on Microsoft Windows XP, you may be missing something on your computer that is required by the program to be installed first and thus preventing the installation from pushing through. For Windows XP, Adobe Photoshop CS3 requires it to be running on Service Pack 2 regardless of the operating system’s edition.

If you are only running Windows XP Service Pack 1 then it won’t do. You need to upgrade it to Service Pack 2. If you are not sure what Service Pack your Windows XP has, right-click My Computer on your desktop and select Properties. The boxed text in the image below should read as “Service Pack 2” instead of “Service Pack 3” because I’m running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 on my other computer.

If yours reads “Service Pack 1” then you really need to upgrade. To upgrade your operating system to Service Pack 2, visit Windows XP Service Pack 2. This Service Pack 2 upgrade is a network installation package which is intended for developers and IT professionals because the Service Pack 2 upgrade package for Microsoft Windows XP is no longer being supported by Microsoft.

If you don’t want this version, you may download Windows XP SP2 2180 RTM from Softpedia which is the actual Service Pack 2 package originally downloaded from Microsoft before.
