Hello,

I am trying to import file “DJ.mov” using after effects cs4 but it gives the following error message saying “After Effects error: File “DJ.mov” cannot be opened, it may be in an unsupported format”. Provide any resolution for this problem. I would be grateful to you.

Hi,

You need to be more specific about the query regarding the OS (Win / Mac). Is it happening for the first time? Or what are other file types which work or not open when imported? Clear temporary files and make sure you have ample disk space.

Sometimes videos without optimum settings (dimensions, framerate etc.) will not work properly. It’s very important to have updated QuickTime player. Remember, such issues also rise due to the lack of enough RAM. The system should have 8Gigs RAM to run AE effectively.

Try uninstalling recently added plug-ins and then work it out.

That file you want to open with Adobe After Effects is an MOV file (*.mov) and an MOV file is a QuickTime file. This means you need to have QuickTime installed on your computer to allow Adobe After Effects to open the file.

Adobe After Effects supports video and audio files like AVI (*.avi), MOV (*.mov), MPG (*.mpg), MPE (*.mpe), M2V (*.m2v), MPA (*.mpa), MP2 (*.mp2), M2A (*.m2a), MPV (*.mpv), M2P (*.m2p), M2T (*.m2t), VOB (*.vob), MOD (*.mod), AC3 (*.ac3), MP4 (*.mp4), M4V (*.m4v), M4A (*.m4a), WMV (*.wmv), WMA (*.wma), and ASF (*.asf).

Though Adobe After Effects supports QuickTime files or MOV files, it can’t open the file out-of-the-box without installing Apple QuickTime. To fix the problem, download Apple QuickTime 7.7.9. It supports Windows Vista and Windows 7. It requires 1 GHz Intel or equivalent AMD or faster processor and 512 MB RAM. This is the latest and last version for Microsoft Windows.

Apple is no longer supporting QuickTime for Windows. The latest version is QuickTime 10 and unfortunately, it is exclusively available to OS X only.
