There are two main reason for disconnecting the external hard disk.

may be the problem with your USB port with which you connect it may be USB port is disabled or not working properly you should unplug the hard disk from this USB port and use another USB port to connect.

Secondly you should check your internal hard disk settings may be its used in slave jumpers which may be conflict with CD Drive so change the jumper settings from Slave to Master This might be the main reason to disconnecting the hard disk Change you internal hard disk jumpers to Masters and CD Drive jumpers to Slave and then you can use your External hard disk it will work properly.

There might be a problem with your USB connection. Try to update the USB drivers by going to their manufacturer website. Or there is an issue with the USB port itself. Move the external hard disk connected on the USB port to another port and see if it will fix the problem. Check if the same port are working fine. USB ports has powers also but it is connected to another AC input. So there may be an issue of no power so you need to check if both ports are working.

Check on the cables connected to the computer and the external hard disk. Is there any damaged wires on both sides? Lastly, uninstall your USB drive on the Device Manager and then restart your computer. And then let your Windows automatically detects and install it again. Ensure that you are also using USB 2.0.
