Hi there,

I have an HP Pavilion desktop which is running on Windows 8.1, yesterday I tried connecting a Samsung SE-208AB DVD+R /W and my computer went off immediately, I restarted the computer and tried connecting the drive again, the LED on the drive lit, it did spin and the DVD icon showed on windows explorer, I tried to play a DVD from the Rom and my computer went off again, What could be the problem? How do I solve this?

Dear Gabriel,

It seems that the issue is with drivers.

  1. Right click on 'My Computer'
  2. Click on properties. A new window will pop up.
  3. In the left pane you can see the link for device manager
  4. Click on device manager, another window will pop up. Look for CD/DVD drives. I am attaching a snapshot.
  5. Now right click on the CD drive and click on uninstall.

Now connect the CD drive and try to reinstall the drivers again. Hope it will work.

If the problem persists then search for latest drivers for the CD drive, on internet.
