To start with computer science is the study of the mathematical algorithm, computation, data processing and implementation of software to ran computer systems. It is a very wide subject to put in one sentence. Computer scientists studies/research ways of improving or developing software to better ran computer systems. The main specialty of a computer scientist is software development, unlike the computer engineer whose main specialty is on hardware instructed by software.
When we talking of computer software in the field of computer science, we talking of:
a. System software- which are the programs that ensure our hardware runs accordingly.
   Here we have trouble shooting and new improvements of software's (updates).
b. System application- the use of a software, for example when you using Ms-Office.
   So we talking of application of a software's to obtain desired results.
