The basic problem I have, is that I would like to upgrade my BIOS. The problem is, I don't know exactly how to back up the BIOS, so I require some instructions on how to copy files in BIOS so that later I would not lose something. My BIOS manufacturer is AMI, if it makes any difference. Can you please help me with this issue? Thank you in advance.

Please keep in mind that backing up the BIOS files is very much necessary before continuing to upgrade it.

For AMI BIOS, download AMI Support.

The above software is self-explanatory, which means that you can easily do the backing up process without any tough procedure. With the help of the elaborate menus, the BIOS data can be saved to a file as a backup which can be written to a floppy disk later.

In order to backup BIOS, you need to run the BIOS upgrade software to read the contents of the BIOS. For AMI, download the AMI BIOS Upgrade Software. Unzip the file and then copy the extracted file to a bootable disk. You will be needing to boot from that disk, because the upgradation will not run within Windows. Also, change the bootup sequence on your BIOS setup and prioritize the disk for booting.

To backup your AMI BIOS, just navigate with the menus on the AMI BIOS Upgrade Software and then save the contents of BIOS to a file.
