Well Picole,

This is due to a virus that changes the name and the target of the executable files. What you are viewing is actually a short cut of another exe file residing somewhere else in your computer. You can confirm that by viewing the target file of the icon that you are trying to run. For that, you need to right click on the exe file icon and click properties. There you will a button labeled 'Find Target'. Click the find target button and you will see the actual exe that is set behind this icon.

The solution is to scan your PC for Trojans and viruses that do that. Kaspersky is the anti-virus that i recommend to most users. If you have any other anti-virus, you can use that too. I hope it solves the issue for you.

Hi there,

It seems you are having trouble with exe files. I think your PC is having a huge amount of malware activity. The only thing you can do is either loose it or kill it.

Its up to you to choose whether to kill it or loose it.

Loose it :-

These are steps to re-install your OS : –

1. Restart Pc and then insert the Windows vista DVD and then select boot options and then remove this current partition by formatting it.

2. Now install a fresh vista and then install an antivirus to prevent further attacks.

Kill it :-

I recommend this because its the warrior's way.

Install Kaspersky 2012 internet security by downloading it from their official Website and then run a full system scan.

And its done.

Hi there Lesten Pasio,

I chose your kill it option because I can't loose all the files in my PC. So I opted to download an anti-virus with specialty to malwares similar to Kaspersky. Thank you for your help. thank you TechyV.
