Hi to all techyv readers, I am posting here a hard time that I encountered. I received  an error when I am on the process of opening  a file in Microsoft Excel.

Microsoft Excel

Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other application.

OK

The error message above gives a lot of hard time on me since I need to view my file for a review. All that was said on that error I already checked, regarding the memory installed on my computer and is above the requirements for Microsoft Excel since I am using a 64bit machine, I already scanned the file for some virus attack that might consumed the memory but no virus was found.

Please share some ideas on how can I open this file. Thanks a lot.

This kind of error occurs when both of the following conditions are true:

  • First is when the Protect and Share Workbook feature is turned on.
  • Second is when configuring the Protect and Share Workbook feature where you must type a password in the Password (optional) box that will password protect the workbook.

This error is corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3. To resolve this error try to obtain the latest Service Pack for Microsoft Office XP.

Just turn on the Office update option if you are connected to internet and try downloading latest updates which should solve this problem.

Cheers,

John

I’m sorry but the problem here I think doesn’t concern whether Microsoft Excel is compatible with your system or your computer specifications passed the system requirements of Microsoft Excel. The error message points to the current amount of RAM left in the system while you are accessing the file with Microsoft Excel. Even if your system passes the system specifications of Microsoft Excel, probably your system doesn’t have enough RAM left the time you opened the file.

If there are also other applications currently opened together with Microsoft Excel, try closing them and leave only Microsoft Excel running then try opening the file again. If it’s still the same, try restarting your computer. After booting Windows, don’t open any other applications. Open only Microsoft Excel so the application has all the available resources for its use. Try opening the file again and see what happens. If it’s still another failure, try opening the file on a different computer to see if it’s not corrupted or something.
