ERRO_UNKNOWN_FEATURE 1606 The feature identifier is not registered.

Printer won’t install, Error 1606 could not access network location %APPDATA%. I cannot install any Microsoft updates; I can't install a printer that I once had installed. I reinstalled the OS a month ago and have been trying to add the programs I once ran on here with no issues but nothing will install and the error appears.

What is wrong with my installation?

Hello Jhon,

To resolve that issue, you will need to try doing the following:

  • On your computer, go to start and then locate Run and click on it.
  • After that type scanreg and the click OK.
  • It might take some minutes and after that you will need to restart the computer.
  • What the procedure will do is repair any corrupted file that may be causing the issue that you are getting.

Regards,

Nicke

If you can’t install anything not even a Windows Update, try checking your system for errors using the System File Checker utility. Press the Windows key + R to bring up the “Run” dialog then type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. Insert your Windows setup CD or DVD when you are prompted then continue. Wait until it is complete then restart the computer.

Try installing again. If this doesn’t fix it, try downloading the “System Update Readiness” tool. It is a program that Microsoft offers for download to fix Windows Update problems or when you can’t install a Service Pack update. Download the tool from the following list according to your operating system:
