Hello,

I was trying to run the Windows 7 upgrade CD but it showed me the error message “The installation disc isn’t compatible with your version of Windows”. I can’t understand what is happening with my system so I need your help in this case to solve this matter.

Thanks.

Windows Setup

This installation disc is not compatible with your version of Windows. To upgrade, you need the correct installation disc. For more information, check your computer’s system information. To install a new copy Of Windows, restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc, and the select Custom (advanced).

Error while upgrading Windows 7 with CD

Hi Leonora,

There are multiple reasons why your setup CD won’t work with the upgrade but there is only one thing that came to my mind when I read the error message you posted.

So there is what we call as a 64 bit OS and a 32 Bit OS. Follow the steps below to check what OS you got.

1. Click Start button then look for “Computer” or “My Computer” then right click.
2. Look for Properties then left Click.
3. Look for something like the Image below.

So if your machine is in a 64 bit and you are using a 32 bit DVD or the other way around then that’s likely the problem. Else, if you found out anything different then let us know.

Hope this helps!
