Hi all,

My friend compressed lots of photos into a zip archive using a Mac Book, and uploaded it to Drop box. I downloaded the zip and when I try to extract using WinRAR, it gives this error, but extracts most of the files:

WinRAR: Diagnostic message

Message

C:\Downloads\SimonINDIA2011.zip: The archive is corrupt

                      Close         Break operation         Copy to clipboard

When I try with 7-Zip, it gets stuck and gives this:

0    Unsupported compression method for 'DSC02999.JPG'.
1    Unsupported compression method for 'DSC03000.JPG'.
2    Unsupported compression method for 'DSC03001.JPG'.
3    Unsupported compression method for 'DSC03002.JPG'.
4    Unsupported compression method for 'DSC03003.JPG'.
5    Unsupported compression method for 'DSC03004.JPG'.
6    Unsupported compression method for 'DSC03005.JPG'.
7    Unsupported compression method for 'DSC03006.JPG'.

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Please suggest a way to me.

Hallo Kimberly,

You can use one of the following methods to resolve the error that you are getting:

Method 1:

  • You will need to open the corrupted part, and then after you will press “ALT + R”
  • After that everything should work well.

Method 2:

  • You can choose to open Winrar and then after that go to the folder that has got the *.rar files.
  • In case you open the first file you can go to the folder using the up button.
  • After that you will highlight / select all of the files related to the archive and then click the repair button.
  • And then you will use the repaired files to extract the previously corrupted content. Those files will have the prefix “rebuilt.” added to them.
