Hi,
I was using COMSOL Multiphysics GUI when randomly I got this error message that related about a license issue. Anyway, I am not so sure how to handle this and so I turned to their website. I still needed to logon and give a lot of details to get the resolution of the said problem. I was in a fix so I turned to this website whose experts might provide a work around.

Error when using COMSOL Multiphysics GUI software
My view in you case is that COSMOL may not be compatible with remote access. All this is well explained in its licensing agreement. So if you are using it remotely then relaunch it and it may work just fine after the 2nd and 3rd launching and GUI will open just okay on remote X11 displays.
Another suggestion is for you considering taking the floating Network license which allows up to two users. This will depend on how many computers you want to use COSMOL on. Try also installing a three dimension graphic just in case it is an Open GL problem because it is of great importance having 3D graphic to open COSMOL. Try all this suggestions at least one will work for you.
