Error When Upgrading Active Directory To 2008 r2

Hello,

I have windows host 2003 Active Directory with one website and two connections.

I put another server in Windows Server 2008 R2 and made connect it in the area of operator. And so I eliminate my further disconnection which moving to server 2003 and eliminate all FSMO character to server 2008 R2, which is disconnected. When I cut out the server 2003 nothing new system could be put to the area or no more user could sign in into the area. I setup DNS on server 2008 and program are set to use server 2008 DNS. And DNS runs great. But the disconnection does not function. How could I solve this problem to eliminate primary server 2003 cut out and make it added dc for server 2008 R2? I cannot locate any forum in technet(I could not make a replacement upgrade because the primary server is working 32-Bitx86 Windows Server 2003 sp2).

Hello Dexter,

To resolve that issue, you will need to try and use adprep from installation media of the newer version in order to extend schema, and then do the following:
Install or upgrade the servers to newest version.
As the 2008R2 is found in the 64 bit version, you cannot be able to upgrade the server in the event that the old server is running a 32 bit version.
In such a case, you will have to do a clean installation instead of just an upgrade.

Before upgrading or reinstalling the DCs holding FSMOs, you will need to transfer the roles to another DC.

As for upgrading the RODC's to 2008 R2,  you should just do the normal upgrading.

Regards,

Carl
