I have been working on setting up Tor and Vidalia inside Ubuntu (or even Debian). During the process, both are not working in sync. Here is the error I have received.

Error:

Vidalia detected that the tor software exited unexpectedly. Please check the message log for recent warning or error message. I wanted to browse the web anonymously. Is there any way that you can help me fix this error?

Yeah there’s a problem with Vidalia it was reported and though nothing is done about it
To solve this problem you must follow this instructions.

Choose parameters  then advanced and select use a TCP (controlport) connection because by default it’s not selected
Recently Vidalia doesn’t launch Tor, it starts automatically so normally a recent version won’t cause this problem

Hello,

You have a temporary solution by putting sudo killall tor in the command terminal. Just restart Vidalia and it will temporarily work with tor. But I understand that temporary solution is not the best.

So, it is better if you reset the settings first. You can also reinstall Vidalia and tor then you have to make sure that you have control on tor by adding yourself to the Group debian-tor. Here is the code : sudo adduser username debian-tor. Try opening Vidalia this time and see if it works. Good luck!
