Hello tech Savvy,

When I attempt to setup the Cypher, I ended up with an error message and it failed to setup Cypher. It went pretty good to some extent in installation, the problem appears while registering the file. I think some dll files are missing, how do I fix them? Please help to resolve this error. Thanks in advance.

Hi Robert

The problem lies in the software trying to register a different version of mfc40.dll on your system. This happens if the software in question is not meant for the version of Windows you are using. You can either get the latest and correct version of the software.

If you already have the correct version and still you are getting these problems, the do the following steps to resolve the issue:

1. Go to the system32 folder.

2. Find the mfc40.dll and  Msvcrt40.dll and rename them.

3. Try and install the software after doing this.

Hope it helps.

If you are installing Cypher, make sure your operating system is fully supported. Cypher supports Windows Vista, Windows 7, and higher. If you are sure your operating system is supported, try running the installer as administrator. Right-click on the setup file, point to “Run as”, and then select Administrator. If you are prompted, enter your administrator password to continue.

Try following the method in the previous post first and see if it fixes the problem. If it doesn’t work, try installing an alternative. Try downloading Cypher Encryption Program. The program does not require installation. Just run it, select the file to encrypt or decrypt, and then process the file. The user interface is also plain and simple. It won’t confuse the users as to where to go next.
