Hi there,

I could not move a file on the desktop for a moment last night. The file could not be deleted, moved, copied. And an error message appears.

Error Moving File or Folder
“Cannot move CIMG0306: It is being used by another person or program.
Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.

‘ERROR MESSAGE’
The computer was trying to reboot but the file still could be worked.

Please help and  thanks a lot.

Hi Noah Fisher,

The reasons why you cannot delete or remove a file might probably because when you try to move the file it is  already attached.  What you must do is you have to click the program that you want to use for the image to be deleted or move. Second, it could be the  file that is sharing along with the P2P to another program you are using.  Make sure that there's no other program running whenever you're doing such changes in your files.  Lastly, the file might probably secured in a system process. in that case try removing  your file when your computer is in a safe status.

Hope this might help you.

Thanks.

To solve your problem you can go to safe mode and then you can delete that file. There are other methods also available but this is the simplest one. You need to boot your windows in SAFE MODE and then you will be able to delete you files. They are of any type.

The main reason behind that is that the file you are going to delete are using by a program and that's why you cannot delete your files. It is easy to delete them in safe mode because these files and programs does not work in safe mode and you can delete them easily form there. But in case you are not able to delete them also from safe mode then you need a antivirus program to make sure that you have not virus in your program and your computer is virus free. Once you have scanned your computer for virus i am sure that your problem will be solved.

The computer is not allowing you to move the file because, as the error message states, it is being used or accessed by a currently running program. Moving the file can make the program unstable and may make it crash that's why the computer is not allowing you to move it. Since you've already restarted the computer and the problem's still there (this assumes that you did not open any applications after booting up), then the program accessing the file may be one of your startup items and services. Try disabling your startup items and non-Microsoft services using the system configuration utility. Restart the computer and see if you can move it this time.

That error can happen if the file you want to move is busy like if it is currently open in another program, a program is using the file, or your antivirus is currently locked on the file for scanning. If you encounter this problem, just restart the computer then move the file again after booting. This should fix the problem.

If this doesn’t work, disable your antivirus temporarily after restarting the computer then try moving the file. If the problem continues, check if the file is part of a program. If it is then you shouldn’t touch or move the file because it will make the program malfunction and it will stop working.

If you no longer want to use the program, just uninstall it from your computer and don’t delete or move its files because even if you move or delete its files in the installation folder or even delete the entire installation folder, that program will remain installed. It’s bad practice to delete programs in Microsoft Windows.

The correct way to remove applications is to uninstall them in the Control Panel.
