Hello experts,

When I am migrating to Small Business Server 2011 standard I get this error message:

Cannot find the Source Server

Verify that the Source Server name is correct, and then try again.

I am not sure what is causing this. Any help would be appreciated.

The problem is usually due to a timing issue between network card response and DNS Server. First of all press OK tab on box and proceed Next again right after 30 seconds. If you receive the same error second time then it is most likely not the issue described above and further troubleshooting required.

Please verify that you can resolve the name of the source server properly. For this do below:

1. In order to open command prompt Select (Shift + F10).
2. Ping the Source Server NetBIOS name (i.e. SBS2003).
3. Ping the Source Server internal FQDN (i.e. SBS2003.R2.local).

Solution:

The said problem also caused by wrong time, justclick(Shift+F10), type explorer.exe then navigate it to the Control Panel and set the correct time on the server (in case of wrong timing). Also, make sure that Netbios is Enabled on the source servers network adapter.

The both steps can also be solved your problem.
