An error in linking Trend ServerProtect to a server.

I endeavoured to link Trend ServerProtect to a server that had a fraudulent installation of ServerProtect by means of the Trend Micro ServerProtect Management Console. On the other hand, while trying to link I continued getting the subsequent problem report: Error: ServerProtect server is not available, Target server: server name. Can you help me figure out what is going on and what to do about it? I immensely thank you for your effort.

I think the ServerProtect server that is mentioned in that dialog box is the server from Trend Micro where the program needs to connect. If my assumption is right, Trend Micro’s ServerProtect needs to connect to one of Trend Micro’s server while it is running and protecting your own server. Maybe it will not work if there’s no connection established between them. If this is the case you should check if the computer where ServerProtect is installed has an active internet connection. Check your internet connection if you can connect to other web sites. This is the reason why you see that message on your screen. You should also check the program’s configuration. It’s possible that you might have changed some settings in the application that shouldn’t be changed. Try restoring the program to its default configuration.

If you can’t find the source of the problem in the program, try uninstalling ServerProtect then restart your machine. After booting the system, check your computer first for any possible errors. Use a disk utility application to check the system. After this install ServerProtect again. This will fix any corrupted files in the installation and will restore the settings back to default. Try it again after this.

Hi,

To fix that issue, you will need to remove ServerProtect from the Server using the following procedure:

  • First you will need to stop the following services: Trend ServerProtect and Trend ServerProtect Agent
  • After that you will open the Registry Editor. Ensure that you create a full backup of the registry before making modifications.
  • And then get rid of the following keys if they still exist:

– HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARETrendMicroServerProtect
– HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARETrendMicroDebugLog
– HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesSpntSvc
– HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesEarthAgent
– HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTMFilter
– HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicestmpreflt (Windows 2003 only)
– HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesVsapiNT
– HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstallServerProtect for NT
– HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstallServerProtect IS
– HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstallServerProtect Management Console

  • Next you will close the Registry Editor, and then delete the …Program FilesTrendSprotect folder.
  • After that delete the Trend ServerProtect Management Console program menu.
  • And then delete the ServerProtect Devices:
  • Go to the Control Panel and then Administrative Tools followed Computer Management.
  • After that open the System Tools tree, select Device Manager.
  • And then enable hidden devices from the view menu.
  • Next you will expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers tree, and then get rid of the following devices:
  • Trend ServerProtect Prefilter
  • Trend ServerProtect Filter
  • Trend ServerProtect Scan Engine
  • StartAG, StartNS and tmcomm
  • After that restart the server and verify that the devices no longer exist.
  • And then reinstall Trend ServerProtect to the problem PC.

Regards,

Carl
