Hello,

While setting up our new intranet I hit an issue deploying SharePoint 2013 prerequisites on our Windows Server 2012 VM. The error stated “unable to install application server role” and linked to the error logs for my viewing pleasure. Suggest possible ways to fix it.

I got the following popup whenever I tried to run the prerequisite.

This error can be fixed if you add roles manually and therefore skip through what's causing the problem.

1. Go to Server Manager and select the option “Add Roles and Features”.

2. Check the IIS 6 Scripting Tools located under Management Tools and Web Server (ISS) Role.

3. Go through the steps proposed.

4. Run the setup again and you should be able to install it without any problem.
