Hi,

Whenever I turn on my computer it always prompts me to run for updates. So today what I did was to finally run one and it gave me an error message that the installation operation failed. Error code is “FFFFFFFF”. I have a Windows Vista computer Service Pack 2. I tried the installation twice after rebooting yet it still gives me the same problem.

Can anyone help me with this?

Hi Louie Jay,

I have reviewed your question and what you are experiencing is a Microsoft Vista Installation problem due to an unsuccessful update. The Error “FFFFFFFF” is a known Microsoft Windows Vista update error.  This is happening because it was able to detect a problem in your computer. It is detecting  malicious software (Malware) during the update process.

What you need to do first is to check if your computer is indeed infected by a Malware. I suggest that you run a scan of a current version of your Antivirus program to remove the suspicious file on your computer. After you have removed the Malware you can now continue to install the update. If you haven’t renewed your subscription for your security software you can check online, there are a lot that you can download there for free.

If you have failed to remove the Malware you can call Microsoft PC Safety technical support. The support is for free if the issue is with regard to your security or computer update.

I hope this solution worked for you.

“FFFFFFFF” is a message which means “There is virus in your computer system”.

If you have Antivirus software, update it and scan the whole computer. If you don’t have any Antivirus program installed, get it from the market or download it from Internet. There are commercial products available on Internet, if you want to buy. And also freeware products available for free use.

If you do not scan your computer with Antivirus, you will not able to update your computer in future because virus will remain in your computer until you vanish it by Antivirus software or installing a fresh copy of Operating System.

For Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 "Error Code FFFFFFFF".

For Windows XP and Windows Sever 2003 "Error Code 0x8007F0F4". During Windows Update, your computer is checked for compatibility that may affect the update.

Due to the detection of problems in Windows Update, updating stops with error shown. You need to scan your computer for viruses, worms, Malware. Run a complete scan. This way your computer is scanned for third-party programs. Be sure to remove them.

Restart then run the update again. I recommend you to use Microsoft Security Essentials (It’s FREE!) or Windows security service providers.
