Error code keeps on showing while and after upgrading to 8.1

I just updated my Windows 8 to 8.1. After updating it showed the error Error Code 0x80240031. What is this error code? What could be causing this issue and how to resolve it? Did I did something wrong? Is there any way that we can eliminate this issue? Can you provide me step-by-step solution and alternative ways to do this with my desktop computer? In reformatting my desktop what is the best and easy way to do this?

First of all, verify whether all the Windows 8 updates are properly installed and if not, install them. Also check for any other vital updates as shown in the control panel and try installing those as well. Now shift to installing Windows 8.1.
Further more you can try the other alternatives like using the automatic repair tool after performing a system refresh. 
At the same time keep in mind that a strong and uninterrupted internet connection is also required.
