Encrypt MS Office 2007 Files

I am doing some updates on my MS Word so I am using WordPad for the meantime.

My computer is somewhat old already and I’m checking for the latest version of MS Office and thinking of installing it.

But I want to know first if it’s possible to secure MS Office 2007 files?

Can I just used it for reading purposes only and put some encryption so unauthorized person cannot have access on opening and reading my files?

If so, please send me steps on how to do it.

Encrypt MS Office 2007 Files

In office 2007:

Go to Review Menu. Click Protect document button > Click the Restrict formatting and Editing button. The Restrict Formatting & Editing window will appear in the Word 2007’s right-side-panel.

Mark/Click the check box – Limit formatting to selection of styles. > Click on settings. The Formatting Restrictions box will appear. Click/Choose the options you want to set and click OK.

Now, Click on the Right side panel’s Edit restrictions sub-option – Allow only this type of editing in the document. If you do not want others to change your file then leave the option ‘No changes (Read only)’ as it is.

Click the “Yes, Start Enforcing Protection” Option and make the protection effective. Then a box will appear. Enter new password & Reenter password to confirm. Click the OK button.

Close the right panel of Restrict Formatting and Editing. Your document is projected now to view but no one can change it without the password.

How secure is Ms Office 2007.

This is a very secure office as it has the following  features in it.

Inspect document

This allow you to detect any sensitive or personal document that you have and you don't want to share

Encrypt document

This allow one to encrypt document and setting password before you may be able to send it to the others

Restrict document

This allow you to limit  the  document although restricting on what to do with it.

Example

Others may be able to view the document but they may not be able to copy paste or print the document

You may be able to use it for reading purpose. You may also Encrypt data so that others may not view and put password

For the steps of encrypting data kindly go to Google search

Type the word step of encrypting data using ms office 2007 and you will get them as a down load of word document
