Hi there,

I am encountering problems while installing my netgear wireless-N300 router. I am told to give a username and password in the fourth step. I have tried giving them but they are not accepted. What do I have to do? I would be glad with your help.

Thanks a lot.

Dear, have you installed netgear wireless-N300 router or set up username or password previously? If not enter “admin” on the username box and “password” on the password box when you will be asked. Then go to next steps. I hope it will help you. A full detail installation instruction is available here. Hope a good luck.

Hi Johnnierbailey,

Installing the software that comes with your router is a good option but if this gives you a lot of trouble then you have the option not to install it. So the question is, will your router still work? The answer is “Yes”. All you need to do is connect your Router to your ISP (Modem). If you want to operate wirelessly then you have to configure your Router first. This leads to another question “will I be able to configure my router without the software that comes with it?”. The answer again is “Yes”. First you have to connect your computer to the router using a LAN cable (RJ45). Your computer will acquire an IP address once you have done this. Check your computers Default Gateway by:

  1. Go to Start > Run > Type CMD hit Enter.
  2. From the dialog box type in “ipconfig”.
  3. Look for the Default gateway address.

Using the default gateway open a browser and type the information on the address bar. This will open your routers user interface or others call it as configuration page. This is where you can setup your Wireless Name, Password etc.… After you configure your wireless settings then your router is ready to use.

By the way, after you type in the default gateway address into the browser this will ask you for a username and password. The default username is “admin” and password is “password”. If this won’t work then consider resetting your router to factory defaults.

Here’s your Routers Manual for your reference.
