If you are playing a game such as “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim”, updating your drivers will probably have not much effect on the performance especially if you are experiencing slow performance on the game. If you want to improve the performance of the game on your laptop, review the game’s system requirements so you can see what needs upgrading.

The game “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 both 32-bit and 64-bit and requires Dual Core 2 GHz or faster processor, 2 GB RAM, 6 GB free hard drive space, Microsoft DirectX 9.0c-compatible video card with 512 MB video RAM, sound card, and internet connection for activation.

This game requires a quite intensive video card so check if your graphics adapter supports the required amount of video RAM. Your Dell Inspiron 15R (N5110) laptop comes with Intel Core i5-2410M 2.3 GHz processor, 6 GB DDR3 RAM, 500 GB hard drive, and integrated Intel HD graphics.

Your laptop’s processor is Dual Core which is pretty much compatible with the game and you can further boost it up to 2.9 GHz with Turbo Boost which will be great in improving the game’s performance. Your laptop’s memory is also big enough for the game which only requires 2 GB and you have 6 GB RAM.

The only problem I see is with the video card because it is a built-in Intel graphics. Most of the built-in Intel HD graphics has smaller video RAM like with my sister’s laptop which also runs on Dual Core Intel processor but with only 256 MB video RAM on its built-in Intel HD graphics. I think that’s the problem why the game lags so much.

The 512 MB video RAM required by the game is the minimum requirement. The recommended video RAM for the game is 1 GB video RAM. So, I guess you need to upgrade the video card of your laptop to improve your gaming experience. Purchase a dedicated video card with at least 512 MB video RAM or bigger.
