Hi TechyV experts,

Elastic IP Addresses who give this. What's the benefit?

I have heard a lot about this when I read articles on Cloud computing. Can anyone throw light on what exactly this IP is?

How different is it from our regular IP addresses.?

Thank you

Capri

Elastic IP addresses are static IP addresses designed for dynamic cloud computing. An Elastic IP address is associated with your account, not a particular instance, and you control that address until you choose to explicitly release it. Unlike traditional static IP addresses, however, Elastic IP addresses allow you to mask instance or availability zone failures by programmatically re-mapping your public IP addresses to any instance associated with your account.

Rather than waiting on a data technician to reconfigure or replace your host, or waiting for DNS to propagate to all of your customers, Amazon EC 2 enables you to engineer around problems with your instance or software by programmatically re-mapping your Elastic IP address to a replacement instance.

Cloud computing can use 2 types of IP Address, Public and private IP address. This is used as a network address in cloud computing.

It is designed to specifically use for cloud computing, primarily its purpose is to use only for your account unless you want to change and released them. Elastic IP Address is more like a static IP address used for business accounts. You'll be assigned a specific IP Address to gain access to your commercial Internet account.

Internet Service Provider will give you specific IP Address only assigned to your account. This also applies to cloud computing, however the difference is that Elastic IP address is randomly assigned by the server in the form of the DHCP or Automatic configuration, which you can release them at anytime.

Compare to Static IP Address, you'll need to contact your ISP to release and change it if you want.
