Hey I have a huge problem with my Sony Vaio laptop, in fact it is with its DVD/CD drive. Well the problem is that the drive will not accept any CD or DVD. The thing just keeps spinning and spinning the CD but it will not show any activity in my computer and says that please insert CD into the drive even when its in there.

I tried checking the latest drivers for the device and also uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers but still it wont work with any CD or DVD not even the blank ones I insert.

I will be glad if you can solve this problem for me.

Hi,

It seems to be that your DVD/CD drive is broken already, physically. Perhaps, the lens is already burned out and you might need to get it replaced if possible. If you have checked everything from updating drivers to uninstalling and installing drivers and the device shows it is working properly on your system then there's a huge possibility that your CD/DVD's lens is damaged.

But, there's also a possibility that the lens is just dirty, what you can try to do is clean it by opening the tray and cleaning the lens by either blowing on it to remove possible dusts or use a cloth to clean it gently, and hopefully it would work. I've had this issue once with my Vaio laptop as well, and cleaning the lens did the trick.

Maybe the CD/DVD-ROM drive's lens is only dirty and that is preventing any loaded disk from being read. If that is only the case you can use any ordinary CD cleaner that you use in cleaning the lens of your VCD or DVD player. Or buy a CD lens cleaner from any computer store or video outlet if they have that.

Or you can manually clean the lens by opening the CD/DVD-ROM drive case. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol in a piece of cotton and gently wipe the lens in circling motion. This method is risky because you might cause a serious damage on the lens while doing the cleaning. Be sure to this as gentle as possible.
