Downloads take very long on my laptop

I have a laptop about two years old, and recently I have been having issues with download speed. I'm unsure if it is my laptop, my connection, or possibly a combination of both. Would someone be able to assist me with how to troubleshoot? How I can determine if it is strictly my connection? Would I be able to tell if it is my laptop? Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Downloading speed depends on your internet connection mostly. It also depends on your system configuration and software as well.

If you’re downloading using your internet browser that will definitely be slow because the default download manager of the popular browsers doesn’t provide enough performance. In that case, you’ll have to use any download manager like IDM, FDM, EagleGet etc. They use advanced download algorithm with multiple connections. The downloading file is split into several parts, and each part is downloaded separately from the file server, increasing the speed unimaginably.

If you’re using Windows, then you can disable the bandwidth reserve for Windows.

1. From Start menu, type gpedit.msc >> hit Enter.

2. Go to Computer Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Network >> QoS Package Scheduler >> Limit reservable bandwidth.

3. Select “Enabled” from top-left side >> change the value of “Bandwidth limit (%)” to 0.

4. Press Apply >> OK.

Also, update your browser to the latest version because they include improved network systems and faster performance.

Clean your browser’s cache, cookies etc. by pressing “Ctrl + Shift + Del” inside your browser and then, try to download again.

Now, your download speed should be faster.
