EDI is a structure of transferring data from one institution to another by electronic means. Most organization use EDI for it is cost efficient, error reduction, and fast.

Some of the type of documents that some of the institution are transmitting are vessel manifest for shipping company, accounting reports, and institution’s documents.

Some of the major set of standards are:

TRADACOMS

This is one of the pioneering standard that have been used by retail industry in UK in transferring of data. The standards provided are more or less obsolete.

US Standard ANSI ASC X12

ANSI chartered the accredited standards committee to develop uniform standard for inter-industry data transferring structure for data such as business documents.

UN/EDIFACT

UN developed this given body to provide a set of rules to structure of transferring data, protocol and provides a standard which allow multi-national institution exchanging data.
