Hi,

I am using Mac OS 10.6.6 and installed Open Office on my system. Now I am trying to save a document “Sofficerc” which I can’t save and the error message occurs saying “The document “sofficerc” could not be saved. You do not have appropriate access privileges”. How can I access this document? Have any suggestion to fix it? Thanks for this.

Hi Cynthia,

This typically happens when the program does not have the privilege to execute certain actions. If you are editing a file on a remote server or one that belongs to others, you might not have the right to edit it – you only have the right to view it. So you cannot save the changes you made. A good way to do this is to copy the whole thing you changed and open a new file, and then save the new file that belongs to you.

Alternatively, look into the privilege of the file to see if you can change it. If you can change it to be writable to you then all will be good.  You can do so by right clicking on the file and open "Properties".

Good luck,

Peter
