Hi everyone

A document management system is a powerful way of manage documents online. I was used Microsoft SharePoint 2007. It had no unique document number so a document can not be retrieved without knowing it's location in Microsoft SharePoint 2007. Now I need to know about Microsoft sharepoint 2010 dms. Is Microsoft sharepoint 2010 dms fix this problem or not?

If anyone have any idea about that please provide me that information and i would be grateful.

Hello,

Yes, Microsoft SharePoint 2007 has no unique document number although it handles large amounts of documents and metadata.  The new release of SharePoint 2010 has a lot of new features but this release also have a single unique document No duplicates are allowed.  In the previous release, the document to exists in more than one location and you can access it only through Managed Copies.
Now, Microsoft SharePoint 2010 offers the Document ID Service.  It is a unique document identifier that helps the user to trace a document throughout its complete life cycle.   Moreover, the document can retains the ID across sites, site collections and web applications. You can also format the ID.  Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 permits the end users to apply metadata through the use of tags.

I hope this is helpful.
